  Basic Chemical Raw Materials
   
 

ECEC has been engaged in the construction of plants for basic chemical raw materials since it was founded, such as the 40,000 t/a concentrated nitric acid plant of Huainan Chemical Works, etc. With the development of business, ECEC has expanded its business to the projects of caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc., and has successively undertaken the construction of dozens of projects for chemical raw material plants, such as the Baibang 7,000 t/a Membrane Process NaOH Project in Vietnam, the 20,000 t/a Membrane Process NaOH Project of Bengbu Bayi Chemical Plant, the 200,000 t/a sulfuric acid production plant using pyrite as raw material of Tongling DAP Plant, Anhui Province, the 500,000 t/a sulfuric acid production projects using smelting gas as raw material in Indonesia and Chile, the 800,000 t/a sulfuric acid production project using pyrite as raw material of Hongfu Industrial & Commercial Development Co., Ltd. in Guizhou Province, the 1,200,000 t/a sulfuric acid production project using sulfur as raw material of Three Circles Chemical Co., Ltd. in Yunnan Province, etc. The following is an introduction focused on the sulfuric acid projects in which ECEC has been engaged.

he sulfuric acid industry in China started in 1870’s. The construction of sulfuric acid production plants with relatively large capacities started in 1930’s. In 1960’s, the sulfuric acid industry began to step into the track of steady development. After entering 1980’s, with the development of compound phosphate fertilizer industry, a number of associated large-scale sulfuric acid production plants using pyrite and sulfur as raw materials have been built up. Meanwhile, in-step development of acid production using smelting flue gases from non-ferrous metal enterprises has been achieved. Currently, the maximum single-line production capacities of domestic sulfuric acid plants are: 1,000kt/a for sulfur-burning sulfuric acid plants; 1,200kt/a for the ones using smelting flue gases; 400kt/a for the those using pyrite; and 200kt/a for those using phosphogypsum. The overall levels of the technology of these large-scale sulfuric acid plants have either reached or approached the world’s advanced levels. At present, there are more than 500 sulfuric acid production enterprises in China. In 2013, the output of sulfuric acid in China reached 81 million tons, which made China rank first in the world.

 


ECEC has been engaged in the engineering and construction of sulfuric acid plants since 1970’s and has successively undertaken the engineering design and EPC construction for many large-scale sulfuric acid plants by using pyrite, phosphogypsum, smelting flue gases, sulfur as feed stocks, such as the 200kt/a sulfuric acid plant project of Tongling Huaxing Chemical Co., Ltd. (Phase I, II and II, total 3 plants), which uses pyrite as raw material; the 200kt/a sulfuric acid making project of Shandong Lubei Chemical Works, which uses phosphogypsum as raw material; the 800kt/a sulfuric acid making project of Guizhou Hongfu Industrial & Commercial Development Co., Ltd., which uses pyrite as raw material; the 1,500MTPD acid making project in Chile, which uses copper-smelting flue gases as raw material; the 600kt/a sulfur-burning sulfuric acid project of Yunnan Three Circles Chemicals Co., Ltd.,2X800kt/a sulfur burning sulfuric acid plant of Yunnan Three Circles –Sinochem Fertilizers Co., Ltd.; Korea 200kt/a sulfur burning sulfuric acid project; associated 450kt/a sulfur burning sulfuric acid unit for Vietnam Haiphong DAP Project; Tunisia GCT 600kt/a sulfur burning sulfuric acid project, etc. Through decades of unceasing development of engineering technology and accumulation of engineering experience, ECEC has become one of the most active and strongest engineering companies in China in the construction of sulfuric acid projects.

In order to provide clients with sulfuric acid plants which are advanced technologically and reliable in operation, in addition to developing process technology and key equipment independently, ECEC also keeps good cooperation with world-famous licensors or engineering companies, such as Kavner Chemetics of Canada, MECS of U.S.A., Lurgi of Germany, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry of Japan, etc.

Source of technology: The technology was from Lurgi GmbH, and the basic engineering design was provided by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd..
Process route: A process flow of fluidized-bed roasting, acid washing and purification, double-conversion and double-absorption was used for sulfuric acid plant. High-quality sulfuric acid product is produced following the process steps of roasting of pyrite, purification, conversion, drying and absorption, etc.

600kt/a Sulfur Burning Sulfuric Acid Project of Yunnan Three Circles Chemicals Co., Ltd. – Phase I
Plant capacity: 600kt/a sulfur burning sulfuric acid plant
Source of technology: Independently-developed process technology
Process route: A process flow of quick sulfur melting with agitator, filtration of coarse sulfur through filters, pressurization and mechanical atomization of liquid sulfur, sulfur burning in air, “3+1” double-conversion and double-absorption is used. High-quality sulfuric acid product is produced following the process steps of smelting and incineration of sulfur, conversion, drying and absorption, etc.

High-quality sulfuric acid product is produced following the process steps of smelting and incineration of sulfur, conversion, drying and absorption, etc.

1,600kt/a sulfuric acid project of Yunnan Three Circles-Sinochem Fertilizers Co., Ltd. (EPC)
Plant capacity: 2X800kt/a Sulfur burning sulfuric acid plant
Source of technology: Independently-developed process technology
Process route: A process flow of using liquid sulfur as feed stock, through mechanical atomization of liquid sulfur, sulfur burning in air, “3+1” double-conversion and double-absorption is used. High-quality sulfuric acid product is produced following the process steps of smelting and incineration of sulfur, conversion, drying and absorption, etc.

Process route: A process flow of using liquid sulfur as feed stock, through mechanical atomization of liquid sulfur, sulfur burning in air, “3+1” double-conversion and double-absorption is used. High-quality sulfuric acid product is produced following the process steps of smelting and incineration of sulfur, conversion, drying and absorption, etc.

2X350kt/a sulfuric acid plant of Fuquan Power Plant of Guodian Duyun Power Generation Co., Ltd. (EPC)
Plant capacity: 2X350kt/a flue gas based sulfuric acid plant
Source of technology: process package from MECS
Process route: by using high concentrated SO2 from organic amine flue gas desulfurization of the power plant as the feed stock, the process flow uses pre-conversion, single conversion and single absorption. It can produce high quality sulfuric acid product.
